Business Strategy and Tactics are Based on Value Provided

Though I am personally focused on human development through L&D, people discuss solutions that actually fulfill the overall systemic needs. From what I understand, a supplier fulfills some very basic human wants:

1. Need – known gaps

2. Continuous review –  find unknown gaps

3. Futuristic solutions – future gaps

4. Aspiration – influence, awards, rewards & recognition

5. Knowledge – keeping abreast of developments and innovation

6. Association – being a part of groups, a collective gap discussion, coordination to design a solution scenario

There are more and please add those. In B2B as well as B2C interactions one talks about these as a customer as well as a seller.

Everyone knows these but we still get so influenced with our brilliance that these important basic points get sometimes overlooked.

Tactics Follow Strategy.

Remote Users, Distributed Locations, Fragmented Learning is a Necessity

As remote working and collaboration become a necessity for health (Coronavirus), productivity and work-life balance reasons, corporations and their L&D has completely new directions to follow. Many times the learners themselves are located so far-away that connectivity itself becomes a rare occurrence.

Be it learning at corporates, schools or Non-profits – we all need to make sure the right courses are always available on the device of learners choice. So L&D, EdTech, e-Learning, LMS/LXPs – all have to cater to this mandate not because its a new feature but a “necessary” requirement in varying degrees of importance.

Strong integrations with collaboration tools, Cloud Infrastructure providers and overall technology products need to satisfy this demand. This would create a whole new challenge for custom service providers too – they are having to provide a seamless, continuous, analytics heavy, recommendation oriented and entirely a very personalised experience. So AI, VR, Digital. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and such technologies would need to be used more to empower learners and users.

Your ecosystems would need a mix of ready solutions, open source tools, customisations and integrations along with the learner ability to access on devices that they have.

We, Adeptus, can help you design and build these solutions. We have deep knowledge in these and would be happy to share. Connect with us.

P.S. Amit is a Cofounder of Adeptus and these views are his own. He has spent a long time in this space and writes often to share his understanding.

Personalisation in L&D – More than what meets the eye

– Ease of access
– Content search (think google)
– Data explosion
– Learning analytics
– Recommendation

There would be a lot more depending on the state of L&D. There are no leaders or laggers in L&D. What’s important to one, might not be to another, the focuses are always unique. There is no one size fits all. We, Adeptus Learning, understand.

Innovation in L&D is about converting an idea to reality, education of the target audience, knowledge of latent demands & trends, learner habits etc.

It’d be useful for L&D to think about what learners need ahead of time, so build a recommendation engine. There various technologies that help at a low cost and the solution could be SaaS based further reducing maintenance and upgrade costs.

A lot of our clients started with a specific need but when we got deeper these requirements really were manisfestation of underlying vision. When we saw the big picture the vision implementation became easier to comprehend.

Adeptus Learning provides services for enhancing Learning Experiences. These are some of the views that are personal to Amit (Co-founder of Adeptus Learning)

Business Challenges and Learning Goals

Consider that your business or function has nothing to worry about in areas like:

  • People and their performance
  • Cost of business and operations (assets, salaries. Rent, supply…)
  • Profits (top line growth and bottom line pressures)
  • Regulation and taxes
  • Technology
  • Customer preferences
  • …and more

It’s be great but people need upgrading (retraining, upskilling,..), company policies need agreement, government regulations need to be followed, markets need focussing, customer acquisition and their satisfaction exceeded, supplier training and retention. There are various disciplines of Businesses that are constantly evolving.

L&D, Training and HR have a lot to do and always find their hands full. A lot of their challenges become easier to manage with tools that automate a lot of these activities.

BUT, like I mentioned, even user preferences evolve and solutions need to match up or even be better. A lot of custom enhancements need to be done to be relevant, useful, futuristic and knowledgeable.

Have you customised learning solutions? Why and what were the goals? Did you innovate in someway and what did you do to make a difference to business performance?

Just some questions one must ask? Get some help, if needed, but figure out engagement must-do’s, performance percentages, ROI, Business Impact and efficiency growth.

Hope this triggers a thought process.

Recognizing the Gaps and Building Relevant Solutions

There are various business values: Monetary, Technical, Employee Welfare, Productivity, Domain Expertise, Functional, Time-to-market, ROI and such. Depending on available strengths and time availability, some values are more appreciated over others.

One such value is to be able to discover gaps in business needs and respective enterprise solutions. A lot of times the gaps are not known or evident in business practices driven by the software solutions like ERP or LMS or Sales Automation… Even if one does a complete audit of the function and the various applications / tools, these gaps are unnoticed or ignored. We help recognising those and filling those. Every service and product should focus on this. Sharing the knowledge about what works, makes it possible for the businesses to acknowledge and anticipate a problem – say, a social gamified platform…

Ready solutions give one an answer but there are unique needs. These needs could use technologies like Automation / Blockchain / Digital etc to fill those gaps. When we start working with a client, we try to understand where they want to be “target”. Sometimes the existing tools need extending or integrations with 3rd party solutions or developing a new software solution to provide meaningful additions to existing systems.

The solutions define the nature of the value-add.

Don’t get distracted with skills that are not strengths

While you design solutions, for learning or sales or finance or such enterprise functions – there are areas where a prior experience with custom software development in the enterprise space is useful. We are good at software engineering and technology consulting – that is our strength; not content nor the visual design. If one understood the line or staff functions well, they would call themselves Management Consultants. Even Digital Transformation or Blockchain or Mobile strategies would first fall under management consulting and then the implementation would need effort from the software engineering team.

Adeptus was founded with long experience in software technology application in enterprises. Our entire focus is on partnerships that are urgently needed. The benefit is better solutions, enhanced ROI, increased utilisation of software resources, and added capabilities. The premise is to do what one is good at and not what creates a challenges or increases cost

For example, we developed solutions for content discovery, personalisation, training, sales… for increased client focus by using AI, VR, Analytics, Data Analytics and Mobile technologies. I would love to talk about these as well as how our capabilities were useful.

Use specialists (internal or external) for assignments that need that knowledge. Avoid risks and budget escalation issues.
